[ Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, the frontrunners for the Democratic presidential nomination, have agreed to co-sponsor legislation that would levy punitive duties on Chinese goods to cajole Beijing into revaluing its currency, according to aides.

America's Coldest Candidates

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., is the coldest presidential candidate among both Democrats and Republicans, and by a wide margin, according to the July edition of the Forbes '08 Tracker poll. By contrast, her fellow Democrats, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson are the least cold.

Some 28% of voting-aged Americans polled in the latest survey associated "coldness" as an attribute that described Clinton, while just 4% associated this trait with Obama or Richardson.

Neither Forbes.com nor E-Poll, the California market research company that is conducting the polling, defines any of the 46 attributes on which it polls its sample population--the same traits it has used to select high-level spokespeople for advertising campaigns for more than a decade.

Politics, along with selling cars, television shows or any other product, has become a complex marketing process. The 46 attributes help define trends and key drivers of what moves a person to respond or react to the messaging and the messenger. In this case, the candidate's name is given to the polled population, which is then asked to match whichever of the attributes it believes is appropriate for the candidate in question.

It is not surprising, most power-mongers are (except me). Hillary is after power. Obama is not after it in the same way and for the same reasons as Hillary.
