Sam Brownback Quits

TOPEKA, Kan. - Republican Sen. Sam Brownback abandoned his 2008 presidential bid Friday, his White House aspirations dashed by a lack of support and money.
Said the Kansas senator: "My yellow brick road came just short of the White House this time."
The conservative managed to gain the support of only 1 percent of Republicans in this month's Associated Press-Ipsos poll after peaking at 3 percent in June. Fundraising reports this week showed that his campaign was struggling financially, with $94,000 available to spend.

And good riddance. I liked Sen. Brownback until he took the opposite side on the immigration issue and then made disparraging remarks about the conservative base. After dropping out of the race he voted for another immigration issue that was contradictory to the interest of his base. Many in this area believe it was his way of giving us the finger after his campaign tanked.

We have a local morning talk show host in Kansas City who has vowed to do everything in his power to make Brownback go away when he comes up for re-election.
