Conservatives are whiners

I'm sorry, but I always expected better from conservatives. All I've heard this last day are grumpy temper tantrums. "I'll vote Hillary or Obama before I'd vote McCain." What ever happened to the vast, right-wing conspiracy? If it was never real in the first place, then let's get one started! Or is letting McCain fall part of the conspiracy?

Don't get me wrong. When you guys say you'll vote Hillary or Obama before McCain, I believe you. That is why Mike DeWine lost his Ohio Senate seat. McCain better believe you, too. He should, as he was out here stumping for DeWine before the election. My John Mitchel primary campaign slogan against DeWine was, "A vote for Mike DeWine is a vote for Hillary Clinton." Seems to be more true every day.

I was expecting conservatives to recognize that the next challenge is to take back the Congress, and it has been that way for years, now. Everybody knows that the President is only allowed to keep one of his campaign promises, anyway. Even that promise has to be watered down. Am I the only one who feels foolish for believing Bush's promise to privatize Social Security? Ya'll were certain to be disappointed no matter who wins in November.

Conservatives need to take back Congress so they can have McCain (or Obama) guided by the leash. The ability to shut down the government, IMHO, is just as good or even better than a conservative President partnered with a Democrat Congress.

I'd like to see conservative control of the House and Senate. That's how things get done. Focus, please. Really, what do the consevative grass roots have to offer the President of choice, anyway? My party was burned to the ground by you guys. My party is dead. At least I have the brains to never say I'd vote for Hillary. Hearing that from probably the same conservatives who wanted to kick my a s s in '92 or '96 just makes me sick. It completely disgusts me.

People like Rush, Hannity, and Coulter are going to give the presidency to the Democrats on a silver platter.

Slow down guys. Everybody is jockeying to get their slice and conservatives are no different. McCain has gotten this far by campaigning on his Iraq War stance and his time spent as a POW and hardly anything else. McCain does not want to talk about the rest of his record because it will show that he has poked conservatism in the eye whenever he's had the opportunity.

McCain may be able to win the primaries with independents, liberals, and moderates, but he will not win the general election without the conservative base. It is a must that conservatives raise hell now, get promises from McCain to govern as conservatively as he's campaigning, and to maybe get a true conservative on the ticket with him. (The man will be 72 years old at his inauguration)

I have real big problems with John McCain. He says he can reach across the aisle, but whenever he does only the Democrats benefit. He has stabbed the conservatives in the back over and over, and now that he needs us, we're supposed to calm down and work with him. Just a few months ago we were all racists and bigots, remember? When did he ever work with us? Carbon taxes, Amnesty, Fairness Doctrine.....
He's on the wrong side of all these issues.

When McCain can convince me that he's not merely Obama turned inside out, or Hillary with a pen*s, I will consider voting for him. He's got a lot of work to do.

PS WiseOne, pen*s is not a dirty word!

Just as FDR had to choose Truman for his veep on his last run over Henry Wallace because Wallace was too socialistic, McCain will need to pick a conservative as his veep. People were concerned about FDR's health and didn't want a socialist like Wallace to become president. The same thing with McCain's age. He will need to pick a veep who is capable of performing the duties of president in case of McCain's death and if McCain wants conservatives to vote for him, he needs to pick a conservative.

I think this looks exactly like the conditions that caused Democrats to get Sherrod Brown and Ted Strckland elected in Ohio last time around. For the very first time, I think Hillary is going to win Ohio's electorals and have a cake walk into the White House. I don't believe all the hype that Democrats fear McCain winning the nomination, anymore.

McCain better sure as heck better be making Ohio conservatives forgive him for supporting Mike DeWine. He ain't getting Ohio at this rate. Grass roots are going to start acting in the mood to leave him hanging high and dry.

I agree with everything you said, Herb. After Cheney, we learned that veeps can be very influential. Before Cheney, veeps didn't do much. I don't know what else McCain could possibly do to appease conservatives except pick a good one.

(I know this has an air as if Ohio is the only state that matters. There are 49 other states. You don't have to tell me that. Tell moveon.org. so they can set the crosshairs somewhere else.)
