| The Surge The following comes from an Obama blogger. He makes alot of sense. that everyone in the press has come down so hard on Obama about for not bowing down and saying “I was wrong.” Is about to be high-lighted for what it really is; an incomplete activity that prolongs a stupid war.
Violence is down and in part for sure due to the fine work that our troops have done. The key point that Obama has been attempting to point out that lowering violence in and of it self is not the goal. The goal is to have the Iraqis in control of their own destiny and living together with lower levels of violence sustained by their military and law enforcement.
The Iraqi sects are not getting along and now our generals are saying that we cannot send our troops home. So violence is down but we can’t leave. That is the point that Barack has been making all along. You do not have a successful surge if you reduce the violence but can’t ever leave.
The other point to this is that in part the violence is lowered because the factions have agreed not to fight each other. We don’t know to what extent that the “awakening” has contributed to this reduction in violence. I pray that the tension between the factions subsides so that we don’t find out how bad it could have been.
I understand Barack’s point regarding the surge totally. It is so disappointing that the media that are paid to investigate and report on these issues are so dense or stupid that they don’t get it. Now I am hoping that things do not deteriorate to the point that the media has to come back and say that Barack was right. He is right enough today and his plan to withdraw the troops is the right choice unless we want to be in Iraq for 100 years |
