 Newt - 4-1 Against Running Newt Gingrich stated at a recent book signing that the odds of him running are 4-1 against, saying that he enjoyed being an author and pundit. I believe that there was more to it than that. Newt is, first and foremost, a conservative and a party loyalist. Though his negatives were as high as the Broom Rider's, he kept his candidacy on standby in case the best the party could provide as a conservative candidate was John McCain. With Romney running hard right and the inevitable announcement of Fred Thompson's candidacy, Newt has put the conservative agenda and his loyalty to the party ahead of his own ambitions and will defer to Romney and Thompson knowing he leaves conservatism in capable hands.
