Forbidden For those screaming Republicans are destroying the country

For those of you screaming how Republicans are trying to destroy the country, read this. Had this passed to me, let yall decide....JAM

This email came in three parts:

Part 1

In just one year. Remember the election in 2006?
Thought you might like to read the following: A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:
1) Consumer confidence plummet;
2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;
3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);
5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

America voted for change in 2006 and we got it!

Remember its Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.

Quote of the Day......"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." -- Barack Obama

Part 2:

Taxes...Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing.
[LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This No Hillary For President Forum Link.

Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008
Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K-tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K-tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K-tax $18,750
Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K-tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K-tax 18,750
Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K-tax $31,250

Both democratic candidates will return to the higher tax rates

It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary is elected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. This is like the movie "The Sting", with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.

PART 3:

You think the war in Iraq is costing us too much? Read this:

Boy, am I confused. I have been hammered with the propaganda that it's the Iraq war and the war on terror that is bankrupting us. I now find that to be RIDICULOUS.

I hope the following 14 reasons are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them. I have included the URL's for verification of all the following facts.

Cool

Congress creates bills and passes them to the president. It's up to the president to make them into a law. Not the other way around.
If George Bush would have veto'd all those big spending bills, subsidies to the arab nations and big oil, if he would have veto'd alot of other things the republican held 109th congress passed, then I could see your point.
But he didn't. He passed everything sent to him.

Three trillion dollars for the war in Iraq is an incredible amount, almost beyond comprehension, and certainly far beyond the figures provided by the Bush administration. Yet this total is made both credible and comprehensible through the documentation of Joseph Stiglitz (2001 Nobel Prize-winner in economics, and Professor at Columbia) and Linda Bilmes, Harvard University expert on public policy and finance.

Compelling alternative uses for the money are numerous. For example, we could have put Social Security on sound financial footing for a fraction of that cost, and avoided the nearly 4,000 American deaths (plus $500,000/death benefits) and 100,000 estimated Iraqi deaths - plus an untold number of seriously wounded and their long-term disability and health costs. (Stiglitz found that 40% of Gulf War troops were declared disabled, and that was only a one month war; he sees Pentagon estimates of Gulf War II wounded and disabled as grossly understated, and documents that conclusion. Another key point - peak expenditures for WWII veterans did not occur until 1993; thus this war will affect spending decades into the future.) Alternatively, America's trillion dollar+ infrastructure needs could be met with only half that expense.

Other costs include skyrocketing re-enlistment bonuses (up to $150,000 - their alternative is personal safety or much higher-paid private security work), the extra costs of using reserve and guard troops, up to $1,222/day for private security guards to replace servicemen paid less than one-sixth that, lost billions to reconstruct Iraq and spent in non-competitive bidding, and massive equipment replacement costs.

Then there are the opportunity costs associated with spending the money overseas, with no return to the American economy, increased pressure on the dollar, and the likely increased cost of oil. Finally, what about the interest costs of financing this war with debt, and our increased reliance on foreign nations holding that debt?

Supposedly this war is being fought to promote democracy. Yet, as Stiglitz points out, it is being mostly sold and funded through hiding the costs from the public. Continuing our presence in Iraq may, with interest, raise the total to $6-7 trillion. Meanwhile, bin Laden roams free, and even more Islamicists hate us.

"The Three Trillion Dollar War" is MUST reading.

From a review at Amazon.com of "The Three Trillion Dollar War".

Granted, illegal immigration and the welfare state cost us lots of money, but two wrongs don't make a right.

I'm not one to support the Democrats' exonomic policy, in fact, I think it sucks, but the high oil prices are due largely to the war in Iraq which has destabilized the oil market. This is what is driving up gasoline prices and energy costs. It is wrecking our economy by driving up costs throughout the economy. We are on the verge of a serious recession. The mortgage crisis is due to the Fed's easy money policies. The easy money policies has also along with the high energy costs contributed to rising prices. On domestic spending, h2l is right. Bush is equally at fault for not vetoing big spending bills. His increased Medicare spending on prescription drugs has also been quite costly.

I agree with you, jam, on the taxes. It's just too bad we didn't have a decrease in spending to go along with those tax cuts. Now we have a huge deficit.

I also want to comment to one of smoothbore's recent comments ridiculing me for blaming America for Pearl Harbor. The evidence too stron that FDR provoked the attack, knew of the attack ahead of time through our breaking of the purple code, moved more ships into the area to maximize the damage, and deliberately didn't warn the commander of fleets at Pearl Harbor so they wouldn't be prepared to defend themselves. In fact, the evidence is so strong that even supporters of FDR have had to admit it, but defended his actions anyway because they believed it was necessary to do to get the American people to support getting involved in the war.

How long will we take it? How long will it take, how many more inconsevable actions from our leadership (democrat of republican) will it take, how much debt must we aquire, how many more police actions against our freedoms will it take before the American people decide enough is enough?

We fear loosing our own financial security the most in this country. Loosing everything we have al worked for our whole lives, home, retirement, health care, and other important things, are all connected to our basic rights, freedoms and liberties.
We cannot see exatly how much better off things could be, because alot of us haven't held it in our hands and counted it. So just think of all the "right" decisions congress and the president (both past and present) could have made, instead of making the wrong ones. Then we might see where we could have been.
