| The NBC poll shows Hillary way ahead of Giuliani, but I've seen recent polls that show Giuliani with a large lead over her, so which do we believe. As I mentioned before, a Democratic polling outfit showed Giuliani running an average of 10 points ahead of Hillary in 30 marginally Democratic Congressional districts and ahead of Obama in the same districts by an average of 1 point. One thing we need to look at are whether or not these polls show likely voters. I believe the Democrats have probably settled on Hillary, feeling she is the nominee apparent. The vast majority of Republicans will not vote for Hillary. That leaves the independents. A lot of independents when asked who they favor for president, Guiliani or Hillary, may say Hillary because of the novelty of having the first woman president. If that's their only reason for voting for Hillary, how likely is it that they will take the time and effort to get out and vote. Hillary haters like most Republicans will turn out enmasse to vote against her. So I'm inclined to believe that the polls showing Giuliani are the more accurate or am I just engaged in wishful thinking?
There are two areas that we need to work on. The first is that in that independents are the swing vote with most Democrats voting for Hillary and most Republicans voting for Giuliani (assuming he's the nominee as it's looking more and more likely that he will be). We need to remind them of Hillary's corruption and her radical leftist political philosophy to sway most of them over to Giuliani. The second area is an area that the Giuliani campaign needs to focus on. There is a danger that too many religious right types and gun rights people will choose not to vote. We need those votes to defeat Hillary. One thing the Giuliani camp can do is stress the differences in Guiliani's and Hillary's positions on those issues. Giuliani can stress Hillary's support for partial birth abortion for instance. He can also stress areas where he might be more pro gun rights than her. In other words, he can show where he is the lesser of two evils and get them to vote for him as a way to vote against her. |
