NARAL has just endoresed Obama.
Hillary women are bitter about their gal losing and are saying that they will vote for McCain instead of Obama, but will they? NARAL's endorsement of Obama, plus the fact that McCain has sworn to overturn Roe vs. Wade and will pick judges who would be more likely to overturn Roe vs. Wade will move these women into Obama's corner once they've cooled down and have had time to think it through.
Read this from an Obama blogger who fits the older women demographic that supports Hillary:
Stay strong when quoted the statistics saying that women will vote for McCain if Clinton is not the Democratic nominee. I'm the "typical Senator Clinton demographic -- white woman over 50," and I will tell you why women of my generation may not vote for McCain -
A vote for John McCain is a vote to limit a woman's right to choose.
As reported by AP, in Feb. 2007, John McCain said at a South Carolina Meeting, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned." If McCain wins, he would appoint conservative judges on the Supreme Court raising the possibility that abortion rights would be limited.
Regardless of feelings of morality about abortion, few Democratic or Independent women in my age group would allow Roe vs Wade to go down. These women want to preserve the right for all women to determine what to do with their own bodies, not the government.
Once the dust settles around Clinton's departure, the campaign needs to hit this fact home, and the gals like me will come running. Trust me. I'm their generation --- we worked too hard to preserve this issue to let it go by the way side.
The same women who are blindly clamoring for a woman in the White House will mobilize against McCain once this feminist issue is placed squarely in their faces.
