Hillary Could Not Win the Gerneral Election Without Black Support

From the New York Times:

...black Democrats’ opinion of Hillary Clinton has deteriorated substantially (her favorable rating among them is down 36 percentage points over the same period).
While a favorable opinion doesn’t necessarily translate into a vote, this should still give the Clintons (and the superdelegates) pause. Electability cuts both ways.
If Hillary Clinton should defy the odds (and the current math) and secure the nomination, she would be hard-pressed to defeat John McCain without the enthusiastic support of black voters, stalwarts of the Democratic base.
Getting that support could now be tricky.
Many blacks are aghast that their extraordinary support of Bill Clinton in the past would be repaid by the Clintons with racial innuendo (in a Times/CBS News poll after the salacious 1998 Starr report was released, his unfavorable rating among whites climbed to 52 percent; among blacks it was only 10 percent). Some who stood by him then now apparently feel betrayed.

I'm pretty sure that if Hillary somehow swipes the nomination the black vote will stay home, though I've heard of some organization planning a "Rain for McCain" vote should Obama not get the nod. If Hillary were to get the nomination and McCain chooses Condi for his V.P. I don't think the Democrats would have a chance.

I don't believe this is a matter of feeling betrayed though. As soon as Obama showed that there was a possibility of winning this thing, blacks wouldn't have voted for Clinton no matter what she did.

No, I think if Hillary had not run such a scorched earth campaign against Obama and if she were to win the majority of pledged delegates, most blacks would support her. Remember, at first there was a much larger percentage of blacks who were supporting Hillary at first, until Bill and the other Clinton people starting making racist like remarks.

Well, the opposite is true as well - if he won, the white vote would go to McCain - it looks like the Democrats are going to lose the presidential election in November, period.

Yea, I THOUGHT a Democrat this time was a shoe-in, but I wonder now. And, yes, Hillary CAN still steal it from Barack Obama, make no mistake. Today, with Indiana and North Carolina we will know a bit more. Now, Condi Rice taking the VP for McCain is, by far, a long shot, but who knows...never know anymore! This is going to start getting really interesting after this point to be sure...depending on the results! Make no mistake, I'll be watching the returns this evening.

:)

Lennox has a valid point. Obama has won a lot of caucuses in predominately white states, many before the disclosure about Reverend Wright, his church, and his remarks about small town America. According to the polls, he's badly bleeding white support.

Still to come will be more issues about his continued membership in Trinity United Church of Christ. Oprah joined that church when she moved to Chicago but quit attending when she realized what the Reverend Wright's fiery sermons could do to her career. Obama does not appear to be that smart or he actually subscribes to the black liberation theology preached there. The church has been tied to the New Black Panther Party, Hammas, and The Nation of Islam. The new pastor, Otis Hall, believes and preaches the same black liberation theology. These are not uniters, they're separatists.

The MSM is sitting on all of this and the Clinton's are probably too afraid to bring it up. Or they're waiting for later.
